Craniosynostosis True synostotic posterior plagiocephaly remains rare and most pediatric neurosurgeons or craniofacial surgeons feel that isolated lambdoid suture synostosis is related in only 3% to 5% of all cases of cranial malformations.
They also note and report that patients with synostotic plagiocephaly, when viewed from the vertex, present a more trapezoid head shape. Deformational posterior plagiocephaly can be differentiated by the Physician from craniosynostosis with a physical examination, Ct scans, or x-rays. Premature fusion of one or more of the cranial sutures can only be treated surgically.
One surgical method may be limited cranioplasties with reversal and rotation of bone segments with prone positioning postoperatively. Sometimes a cranial orthosis is prescribed after surgical intervention to help hold the correction.
Cranial Solutions Treatment Center At Cranial Solutions we will provide your child with the safest, effective, most comfortable, and affordable cranial orthosis to date. Our CSO is available on an individual and prescription basis only. Most cranial orthotic devices are prescribed for infants between 3 and 18 months of age; however it is important to note that 75% to 90% of cranial growth occurs by 12 months of age, so optimal treatment results are best obtained between 4 and 10 months of age. During the CSO treatment process our device will provide gentle pressure to prominent regions of the infant's cranial regions and will provide realignment space for the normal growth. As the growth of the cranium continues the asymmetry will undergo a gradual resolution.
As a convenience to parents, appointments are available on weekends at our NJ treatment center. Cranial Solutions offices provide consultations free of charge.
